As the
decades turned, new posts were filled and new helicopters ordered. 17
rescueswimmers were on active duty by the end of the 1990´s.

Finland,
Sweden and Estonia confronted the worst disaster in their maritime
history, when the MV Estonia capsized and sank in the baltic sea
28.09.1994. The
rescueswimmers faced the toughest challenge along with the other officals
who
took part in the rescueoperation.
Of the 989 people on board, 137 survived.
